Link to Information on 13 Generations of Bassett's

Bassett Family Roots - Traced to 1642 in North Haven, CT

The Internet makes the world a smaller place. In 1997 I was sent a copy of a Bassett Family genealogy study that spanned back 13 generations from present day to the first Bassett ancestor that we could trace to Connecticut.

At first I was very skeptical, then my wife & I visited the cemetery on the Town Green and the Historical Society. We were able to verify much of the information in the documentation with very little effort. I had been living in North Haven Connecticut for almost 8 years at that point and had no idea my history with the town.

The following is an excerpt from that study: William Bassett arrived in Boston, Massachusetts in 1635 in the ship "TRUELOVE", from London, England, in company with Rev. Peter Hobart, John Cooper Sr., John Cooper Jr., William Ives, Abraham Dickerman, and others. He first appears in the New Haven colony in 1642/3. William married Hannah Ives, the widow of William Ives, on 7 Nov 1648. He resided in what is now North Haven, Connecticut. William died in 29 Aug 1684. In his will he calls Abraham Dickerman and John Cooper his brothers.

Since that time we have discovered that Richard Bassett of Delaware is one of the Framers of the US Constitution. A number of leads being pursued indicate that he is also one of our ancestors. Pretty wild stuff!!!
